Eyelash Transplant

An eyelash transplant is a delicate cosmetic procedure, where the main purpose is to restore and replace donor hair into natural eyelashes. There are several procedures for eyelash transplant.

Most of them are outdated procedures which often produce poor results . Also, eyelash procedures require a very highly skilled surgical team as well as the right instrumentation, right technique and an artistry approach. Using the wrong technique may not permit proper growth of new follicles, and in some cases injure the existing eyelashes.

Eyelash Technique

If some eyelashes are still present, we measure the diameter of the eyelashes to make an average hair density to be used. If eyelashes are no longer present, we use an average diameter calculation for normal eyelash density and evaluate donor hair to predict results. Harvesting hair from the scalp can be done in two ways, either with Stereoscopic Follicular Unit Strip or with Follicular Unit Extraction. Dr. Nader will evaluate which is the best procedure for your case.

Local anesthesia is used to obtained the donor hair. We use a special technique where no pain or discomfort is felt during the procedure. The follicular units are then processed in special fourth generation stereoscopic microscopes to ensure proper direction and growth of each hair.

We also use local anesthesia for the eyelid, and a very fiine instument is used to make micro-incisions following a three-dimensional pattern. Each hair is implanted microsurgically, one at a time.

The density also varies with gender, as females often have an increased number of eyelashes than men. Furthermore, the number of eyelashes implanted varies with each case, but an average total of eyelashes transplanted ranges from 30 to 80 (about 35/eyelid during one session) where they eventually live and grow permanently. We always try to implant as much hairs as possible without compromising the skin of the eyelid or the existing or new hair follicles.

Bruising is minimal but common in eyelash transplant. Special measurement and techniques are necessary to provide the natural look that is needed for a successful procedure.

This image was altered in color to show the number of follicular units used in the eyebrow (135 grafts per eyebrow) and eyelash (47 grafts per eyelid).
Natural looks, minimal and undetectable scarring. Permanent results!

General Information and Frequently Asked Questions

What are eyelashes?

An eyelash is a hair that grow at the edge of the eyelid. It is believed that they serve as sensitory organs, as being touched produces a warning that an object is close to the eye. Elashes may also be fluttered, as a form of non-verbal communication.

How long does it take an eyelash to grow?

It takes about two to three months to grow.

History of eyelashes

Beautiful, long eyelashes are considered a sign of femininity in most if not all cultures. In the 1960's the use of mascara enhanced this belief.

Eyelash diseases

Eyelashes are prone to a number of problems:
* Madarosis is the loss of eyelashes
* Blepharitis is the irritation of the lid margin (where eyelashes join the eyelid). The skin often becomes flaky.
* Trichiasis is ingrown eyelashes
* Eyelashes may become infested with crab louse parasites
* An eyelash may become infected and form a stye.

The secret in Dr. Nader's results have been due to his new technique for eyebrow and eyelash transplantation (FUE & CFUI). This is what I call “imitating nature”. The technique we have gives us the ability to provide direction, depth, and correct angle growth resulting in a more natural look and growth of each hair implanted. It is also not as superficial as the standard technique, which decreases the possibility of redness and scarring of the eyelid.
